Hello All

Thank you to everyone who has sent well wishes via email, with only 4
weeks to go, there is no hiding the fact that baby Turner is well on the
way!  One of David's few comments on the subject was "At least it fits in
well with the farming calendar........"!

NEW LINE OF CAKES
Due to the popularity of "Frank's" biscuits we thought we would try the
following lines in their cakes:

CHRISTMAS ORDERS
Make a date of our Festive Tasting Day on Saturday November 20th 11am -
3pm.  A good opportunity to sample lots of festive goodies, including
turkey reared by
Charles Hammond which we have sourced for the previous two years, and
received excellent feedback.


SEASONAL PRODUCE

QUINCE
For those like me who had no idea of what to do with a "Quince" it looks
like a small Bramley Apple.  It is used in jams and marmalades and
preserved with pears.  Mrs Gledhill who supplys us with the more unusual
chutneys makes a "Quince Sugar Rosemary".  


POTATOES
We have been sourcing (7.5kg), Medium (12.5kg) and Large (25kg) sacks of
potatoes. Today (Wednesday) we have the following in stock:

Wilja - 7.5kg  
Estima - 12.5kg

Drinkwaters have said they may be digging more varieties, in different
size
bags by the weekend, depending on the weather!!!!!


HOME GROWN ELLENDEN APPLES 

* Russett Apples are now in Season.  This apple dates back to the
  Victorian era, with a characteristic sweet/dry, "nutty" flavour.  
* Bramley  (Black top Apple Juice
* Lord Lambourne (Red Top Apple Juice)

some small Vale Pies (pork, cider, apples, cream, onion and whole
grain mustard).  We have Steak & Kidney pies and Stow pies available in
the freezer.

FARMING NEWS
The planting has continued into the early hours this week, but I think
David is nearly up-to-date.  He made a big effort to make sure the fields
closest to the houses in Harvington were completed earlier in the day....

GOOD LUCK
I would like to wish Cameron Brodie the very best of luck, when he swims
for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games on Monday.  A major achievment, I
hope it is televised Mirren, and you find the right channel! 

APPLE DAY & HARVEST FAIR SUNDAY 3RD OCTOBER 10am - 5pm
We have been asked to attend Mary Ardens Farm on sunday for the above
event.  We are taking our own apples and juices to sample.  In addition
there are a number of events taking place from Sheep Dog Trials, Goat Grand
National and Falconary from Horseback!  Maybe we'll see you there.
